While talking with some friends at his grocery store on Sycamore street at 8:40 o'clock this evening, Mr. Parker Duke suddenly turned pale and toppled over. In a minute he was dead. Heart failure is assigned as the cause. The remains were taken to the residence of his daughter, Mrs. W.T. Taylor, and prepared for burial. Deceased was about 63 years old. He lately moved here from the county. He was the son of "Whit" Whitmell & Susan DUKE. He served as a private in Co. I, 61st VA Infantry, after transferring from Co. B, Cohoon's Battalion. His wife applied for a pension 4 Sep 1908, stating that he d. of heart disease. Nansemond Co. D.Reg. #57 gives d. 13 Oct 1896, of apolexy, age 62; farmer.
