All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ MARY ETTA MILTEER DOUGHTIE Suffolk, Oct. 28 - Funeral services for Mrs. Etta Doughtie were conducted this afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the residence in Holland, by the Rev. Carl R. Key, Dr. N.G. Newman, and the Rev. W.H. Corbitt. A quartet composed of Mrs. Vernon Holland, Mrs. Hendricks Jones, W.W. Darden and G. D. Underwood, sung "A Christian’s Goodnight," "Safe in the Arms of Jesus." A solo, "Nearer My God to Thee," was sung by W.W. Darden, accompanied by Mrs. Ernest Rawles. There were many floral tributes, and the casket was covered with a pall of white chrysanthemums and ferns. Active pallbearers were Joseph Ballard, Roger Milteer, Elliott Milteer and Henley Doughtie. Honorary pallbearers were friends of the family. Burial was made in the family cemetery near Whaleyville*. Mrs. Doughtie was survived by the following step-children, Mrs. David Roberts, of Nansemond County, Mrs. Allie Dougherty and Mrs. Lila Farmer, both of Richmond; Carlton Doughtie and Luther Doughtie, both of Holland. Mary Etta (MILTEER; Mrs. Bolden R.) DOUGHTIE, of Holland, b. 18 Jul 1865*, d. 26 Oct 1937*, interred in the MILTEER family cemetery*, 28 Oct 1937, donated obit, newspaper unknown *Her parents are also buried there. located in Whaleyville; from Suffolk, take Hwy 13 South to Whaleyville, turn right on Mineral Springs Road, down about 2 miles; cross springs and cemetery is on the left, about 30 yards off the roadside.
