A Little Child Burned to Death Near Holland. A War Time Mock Marriage - A Most Enjoyable Occasion - Other Days of Long Ago Recalled to Mind - Suffolk and Norfolk Football Team Play a Tie Game. Suffolk, Va., Nov. 16. - Katherine, 11-months-old, the only child of Mr. and Mrs. A.P. Daughtrey, who live near Holland, twelve miles from Suffolk, was burned to death to-day. The face and portions of the body were roasted brown. While looking after her household duties Mrs. Daughtrey left Katharine on a rug before an open fireplace. A live spark popped out and ignited her dress. Alarmed by the baby's screams, which grew weaker and weaker, Mrs. Daughtrey rushed into the room and made an heroic effort to save her offspring, but in vain. Katherlne lived three hours. The mother's hands were painfully burned. Dr. Gavin Rawls, of Carrsville, was called, but could not save the little one. The funeral will take place at 2 o'clock to-morrow afternoon, and will be preached by Rev. J.E. Jones. ****************************************************************************** KATHERINE DAUGHTREY HOLLAND HERALDINGS November 20 - On Friday, November 16, 1900, little Katharine, only child of Mr. and Mrs. Abe Daughtrey, aged eleven months and sixteen days, passed away, after a few hours’ intense suffering. Little Katharine was a bright child and the idol of its fond parents. Being left alone a few minutes she caught on fire, and when discovered it was too late to save her.
