J. Douglas Dickerson, who ran a 5-and-10 store in Suffolk for a number of years around the turn of the century, died yesterday at his home at Modest Town, Accomack County, Va. Funeral services were to be conducted this afternoon at the Modest Town Baptist Church, to which Dickerson belonged for many years. He is survived by his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Carroll Matthews, and a son, J. Douglas Dickerson, Jr. Dickerson, who was about 83, left Suffolk around 1914 to return to his home in Accomack after disposing of his store on Washington Square. He engaged in farming for the remainder of his active life. Alice was a first cousin, twice removed, of Ralph Shearer NORTHAM, Governor of VA 2018 - 2022. D.Cert. 15917 (Metompkin #13) gives son of Jesse & Suzanne (BYRD) DICKERSON.
