Doughtie Funeral services for Wesley Spurgeon Doughtie were conducted today at 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church by the Rev. John C. Mitchell, pastor. Burial was in Holly Lawn Cemetery. Members of the American Legion and of the Veterans of Foreign Wars served as honorary pallbearers. Mr. Doughtie, 48, died Saturday at 8:15 p.m. at the McGuire Hospital, Richmond, after an illness of five months. He was the husband of Ruth South Doughtie and the son of the late William Doughtie and Sarah Piland Doughtie of Gatesville, N.C. Besides his wife, he is survived by seven sieters, Mrs. Hubert H. Swanner of Nansemond County, Mrs. Fay Jones of Suffolk, Mrs. Virginia D Smith of Suffolk, Mrs. J.T. Turner of Winton, N.C., Mrs. C.M. Perry of Gatesville, N.C., Mrs. June Green of Roduco, N.C., and Mrs. R.L. Wolfley of Newport News; three brothers, J.M. Doughtie and Tom Doughtie of Eure, N.C., and Presley Doughtie of Swan Quarter, N.C., and nieces and nephews. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Suffolk, Post 37 of the American Legion, and of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Suffolk. For the past two years, he had operated a grocery store here on East Washington street. He was a veteran of World War II and served in England. As a youth, he served in the Army Medical Corps for nine years.
