Darden, Sr., 76, of Richmond, formerly of Hampton, died Wednesday, June 8, 1983 at his home. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth A. Darden; a daughter, Mrs. Anne D. Baldwin of Hampton; a son, Gilbert P. Darden, Jr. of Rosemead, CA.; two grandsons, Charles A. Baldwin, III of Richmond, and Christopher Darden of California. Mr. Darden was in charge of Safety and Distribution with VEPCO until his retirement in 1972. He was currently working part time with the Brookhill Construction Co. as a safety consultant. He was a member and Deacon of Westhampton Baptist Church, past Master of Hiram Masonic Lodge, Suffolk; a member of the Kedive Temple, Suffolk and Acca Temple in Richmond; a former member of the Wythe Exchange Club and a first aide instructor for the American Red Cross for many years. The family will receive friends at Mr. Darden’s home. Graveside services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suffolk. Masonic rites to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Westhampton Baptist Church or Children’s Hospital in Richmond. Woody Funeral Home, Parham Chapel, in charge of arrangements.
