HERBERT DARDEN SUFFOLK - Funeral services for William Herbert Darden of Suffolk will be conducted Saturday at noon at the graveside in Cedar Hill Cemetery by the Rev. James H. Newsome Jr., rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. The body is at the Baker Funeral Home. Mr. Darden, 88, a retired grocery merchant, died Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in Lakeside Nursing Home after a long illness. At retirement, he had been in the grocery business 60 years. A native of Isle of Wight County, he was a son of Julius C. and Mrs. Lucy Turner Darden and the husband of the late Mrs. Janet Withers Darden. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Surviving are two sons, A. Taylor Darden of Suffolk and Robert Withers Darden of Cedartown, Ga.; a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Darden Pierce of Alexandria; a brother, Dr. J.C. Darden of Salem; a sister, Mrs. John S. Marshall of Smithfield; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
