DARDEN IS KILLED IN BATTLE Suffolk, Nov. 12. - Mr. and Mrs. A.G. Darden have received full particulars and date of the death of their son, Corporal Hinton A. Darden. The letter states the following: "Corporal Hinton Albert Darden and his best friend were killed September 29 at 9:30 p.m. by a shrapnel shell. He was buried by his company, B 314 Machine Gun, in Cavisy, France. He was spoken of in the highest terms by his comrades." Letters were received from Corporal Darden by his parents and Mrs. A.P. Gomer, written September 21 and September 22, stating that he was well and happy and not to worry over him. ****************************************************************************** DARDEN KILLED BY HIGH EXPLOSIVE SHELL Suffolk, Nov. 29. - Mr. and Mrs. A.G. Darden of Driver, Va, whose son Hinton A. Darden was killed in action on the 29th of September, have received a letter from his captain, D.D. Hand, telling them of the death of their brave son. Captain Hand stated that Corporal Darden was struck by a high explosive shell and instantly killed, and spared the intense suffering that nine of his comrades had to endure. The letter also states that a few days before the death of Corporal Darden, he led his squad in an engagement with courage and calmness and the loss of the family was also the loss of the company. Captain Hand also gave the family the exact location of Corporal Darden's grave, between Cuisy and Bethincourt, France.
