All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ With Highway Dept. 37 Years William Darden Jr. Dies Unexpectedly At Home William Herbert Darden, Jr., right-of-way engineer of the Suffolk District of the Virginia Department of Highways, died unexpectedly Monday at 4:15 a.m. at his home, 511 Riverview Drive. He was 57 years old. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church by the Rev. Walter H. Whichard, rector. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. The family has requested that flowers be omitted. Mr. Darden has been affiliated with the Highway Department for the past 37 years. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, where he was a former Vestryman, former superintendent to the church school, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 340. He was a son of the late Mrs. Janet Withers Darden of Suffolk. He was active in Boy Scout work for many years and a former member of the executive board of the Old Dominion Area of the Boy Scouts of America, and was a holder of the Silver Beaver Award. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary English Darden of the home, a daughter, Mrs. James J. Harrison Jr., of Ithaca, N.Y.; a son, William Herbert Darden, of the home; his father, William Herbert Darden of Suffolk; a sister, Mrs. E.H. Pierce of Alexandria; two brothers, A. Taylor Darden of Suffolk and Robert Withers Darden of Cedartown, Ga., and several nieces and nephews. [photo, captioned:] W.
