EVERETT RITES TO BE IN SUFFOLK Suffolk, Aug. 18 - Funeral services for Paul Lee Everett, 47, Commonwealth’s attorney for Nansemond County, will be held at 4 p.m. tomorrow at the Hill Funeral Home here, with burial in Holly Lawn Cemetery. He died of a heart attack at his home here yesterday. He was a past president of the Ruritan National, a director of the Farmer Bank of Nansemond and secretary of the Virginia-Carolina Peanut Corporation. He was graduated from the College of William and Mary and the University of Virginia Law School. He had been Commonwealth’s attorney since 1947. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Julia Taylor Everett; three sons, Paul E. Everett, III, Charles Taylor Everett and George T. Everett; a daughter, Miss Elizabeth Rawles Everett, and four sisters, Mrs. G.G. Mosley, of Columbia, S.C.; Mrs. George F. Darden, of Virginia Beach; Mrs. Robert D. Kramer, of Elizabeth City, N.C. and Mrs. Sam P. Woolford, of Richmond. ****************************************************************************** PAUL L. EVERETT BURIED IN SUFFOLK Nansemond and Southampton counties experienced a shock Tuesday in the death of Paul L. Everett, Commonwealth’s Attorney of Nansemond, native son of Holland and once its mayor, who died unexpectedly at his home in Suffolk of a heart attack. He was buried yesterday in Holly Lawn Cemetery following funeral services conducted in Suffolk by two old friends, the Rev. L.L. McGee, pastor of the Holland Baptist Church, where he was a member, and Dr. Julian H. Pentecost, pastor of the West End Baptist Church where he taught the Men’s Bible Class. He was the son of the late Paul Lee and Annie Eliza Holland Everett of Holland. A graduate of the College of William and Mary and the law school of the University of Virginia, he started his law practice in Suffolk in 1929. In 1940 he became a lieutenant in the United States Navy and served there three years. He early displayed a keen interest in community affairs. A past national president of the Ruritan Clubs which were organized here, he also became a president of the Lions Club. He was a director of the Farmers Bank of Nansemond, a member of the Nansemond County and Virginia State Bar Associations, and secretary of the Virginia-Carolina Peanut Association. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Julia Taylor Everett; a daughter, Elizabeth Rawls Everett; three sons, Paul Lee Everett, III; Charles Taylor Everett and George Taylor Everett, all of Suffolk; four sisters, Mrs. G.G. Mosely, of Columbia, S.C.; Mrs. George F. Darden of Virginia Beach; Mrs. Robert D. Cramer of Elizabeth City, N.C., and Mrs. Samuel P. Woolford of Richmond, and several nieces and nephews. Many tributes were paid in the passing of the state’s attorney. State Senator Mills Godwin said, "He was one of my closest friends... it’s an irreparable loss... he was a fearless prosecutor and an able lawyer." W.H. Story of Capron was deeply shocked upon hearing the news. He said Mr. Everett was one of his closest friends and that it was difficult to believe news of the death. ****************************************************************************** PAUL LEE EVERETT, JR. PAUL EVERETT, 47, BELOVED ATTORNEY, BURIED LAST WEEK Paul L. Everett, 47, prominent and beloved commonwealth's attorney for Nansemond County was buried at 4 p.m. Wednesday, August 18, 1954 in Holly Lawn Cemetery. Mr. Everett, a former mayor of Holland was in his second term of office when a heart attack ended his life the afternoon of August 17. He was at his home in Suffolk at the time. He had many friends in counties throughout the State, and a host of Isle of Wight County residents knew him as a kind and able man. He had once served as president of Ruritan National and was a member of local, State and National bar association.
