[...] ****************************************************************************** SUFFOLK. Special to The Landmark. Suffolk, Va., June 12. - Death made his appearance this morning in Suffolk and at 8:10 o'clock took away the spirit of Mrs. Sallie Ann Eason, who had just entered her 78th year, her 77th birthday coming in March last. Mrs. Eason claimed to be a native of North Carolina, having been born in that State, though it would seem that she belonged equally to Virginia, her old residence being fairly on the State line, and while she lived in North Carolina she ate her meals in Virginia, as she used to say. She was a daughter of Mr. Samuel Cross, of Gates county, N.C., who has long since passed away, the widow of Mr. Jesse Eason, who preceded her to the grave about seven years ago; a sister-in-law of Mr. James A. Cross, of Norfolk; a niece of Mrs. Jesse Bassett, of that city, and cousin of Colonel Thomas W. and Messrs. Robert R. and H.E. Smith, of Suffolk. She has relatives and friends in various other sections of the surrounding country, and was well and favorably known almost throughout the entire South. Her friends were legion, her disposition amiable and lively, and her life in true touch with her Lord and Master, Jesus Christ. Last October she had a fall and received internal injuries, from which she suffered a great deal, growing gradually worse all the time until three months ago she took to her bed to leave it no more until death relieved her sufferings. She had lived with friends in Suffolk and elsewhere near for four or five years, and when convinced that she must give up, was satisfied to be only with Mr. and Mrs. D.N. Farnell, where she seemed better satisfied than elsewhere, and seemed to fully appreciate their untiring efforts to restore her to health. She bore her sufferings patiently without murmuring, and toward the latter days of her life said that she was ready and willing to go, and would rather die now than to recover, as she was getting old, and if she did get up would soon have to go through the same trials again. She joined the South Quay Baptist Church at the age of sixteen and remained a consistent member until she came to Suffolk, when she united with the church of that denomination here. Truly she was a Christian ripe unto the harvest and anxiously awaiting the coming of the Reaper to take her into the garner of her Lord. The funeral will take place at the Suffolk Baptist Church at 11 o'clock to-morrow (Sunday) morning, the Rev. J.F. Love, her pastor, conducting the service, and the remains will be interred in Cedar Hill Cemetery to await the resurrection morn. The following are the pall-bearers: Mr. A.W. Eley, Hon. J.E. Booker, Messrs. R.M. Butler, W.L. McLeod, Charles R. Brothers and Donald McLeod.
