All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ BENJAMIN CLAUDIUS ELEY AGED NANSEMOND COUNTY CITIZEN DIES SUDDENLY Suffolk, Va., July 16. - Benjamin Claude Eley, 75 years old, a former resident of Nansemond county, died suddenly last night in Baltimore. The body will be brought to Suffolk and conveyed to Chuckatuck for burial at Wesley Chapel Methodist Church cemetery. The exact time has not yet been announced. The deceased, a veteran traveling salesman and popular citizen, had a wide acquaintance in the South and East. Several of his sons also are commercial men. Mr. Eley is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Arthur J. Pinner, of Baltimore, and five sons, John W. Eley, of Suffolk; Dr. L.L. Eley, of Crittendon [sic; Crittenden], Va.; T.C. Eley, B.C. Eley, J. and C.H. Eley, all of Baltimore. ****************************************************************************** FUNERAL OCCURS TODAY Suffolk, Va., July 17. - The body of the late Benjamin Claude Eley, who died Saturday night in Baltimore, will arrive in Suffolk about 10 o'clock Tuesday morning via the Seaboard Air Line. Dr. W.W. Staley will conduct the funeral service at 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon from Wesley Chapel Methodist church, at Chuckatuck, Va. The interment will occur in the Wesley Chapel church cemetery. The deceased was a member of Oakland Christian church, near Chuckatuck. The following have been selected as pall bearers: John David Corbell, Crowley C. [sic; C. Crawley] Phillips, Dr. John E. Phillips, Robert R. Allen, Robert J. Norfleet and A.H. Hargrave.
