All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ CLAUD ERAMBERT ELEY Claud Erambert Eley, 75, former commissioner of the Revenue for the City of Suffolk, died at 5:50 p.m. Wednesday in a Peninsula hospital. Eley was commissioner of Revenue here from 1925 - 1945, leaving that post in 1941. He then joined the Virginia Department of Taxation in Richmond and made his home at 1100 West Ave., there, at the time of his death. A native of Suffolk, he was the widower of Dorothy Morrison Eley and a son of the late John Walter Eley and Annie Erambert Eley. He was a member of Suffolk Christian Church and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War I. He was a past commander of American Legion Post No. 57. While in Suffolk he was active in Boy Scouting, and was a past scoutmaster of Troop 5 of Suffolk Christian Church. Surviving are a son, Claud E. Eley, Jr. of Rumson, N.J.; and three grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the graveside in Cedar Hill Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Robert B. Marr, pastor of Suffolk Christian Church. The funeral procession will leave R.W. Baker & Company Funeral Home for the cemetery at 10:45 a.m. Friday.
