JOHN W. ELLIS 

  John Wallace Ellis, 69, of 3049 Old Norfolk Road died Friday at 6:30 p.m. 
in a hospital. 

  A native of Gates County, N.C., he was a son of Tom and Mrs. Katie Ellis 
and the husband of the late Mrs. Eunice Nelson Ellis. 

  He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. George W. Eason of Havre de Grace, 
Md., and Mrs. Grady A. Baines of Dendron; three sons, William Walter Ellis 
of Nansemond County, Melvin Thomas Ellis of High Point, N.C., and Johnny Lee 
Ellis of San Francisco; a sister, Mrs. Martin Lassiter of Nansemond County; 
13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. 

  A funeral service will held today at 2 p.m. in I.O. Hill & Co. Funeral Home 
by the Rev. William B. Denston.  Burial will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery.  The 
family will be at 112 North Street.
