ELAM DIES PROMINENT IN SUFFOLK BUSINESS AND FRATERNAL CIRCLES NEAR HALF CENTURY. Suffolk - Jan.26, - Hillary Edward Elam a prominent Suffolk resident, died this morning at 11:30 o’clock after an operation on Saturday, from which he failed to rally. Mr. Elam was born in Charlotte County, Va., in 1866, and had lived in Suffolk for 54 years. For 22 years he was connected with the Lummis Peanut company. For the last 30 years he was treasurer of Suffolk Lodge No. 20, A.F. and A.M. having recently declined re-election on account of failing health. He was survived by his wife, who was Miss Lelia Kirby [sic; Kilby*] of Richmond, and a grandson, R. Kilby Elam, Jr.; a brother W.G. Elam of this city and two sisters, Mrs. Charles M. Boswell, of Chase City, Va., and Miss Alma Elam, also of Chase City. Funeral services will be held at the grave in Cedar Hill Cemetery Wednesday at 3 o’clock, conducted by the Rev. E.P. Miner. Burial services will be conducted by Suffolk Lodge No. 30 A.F. and A.M.
