SUDDEN AND TERRIBLE DEATH OF A LITTLE BOY. The Son of Mr. W. H. Folk Killed by Strychnine - Another Little Boy Badly Hurt - Sunday Services in The Churches - Marriage License Issued - Many Other Notes, Personal and General. Special to The Landmark. Suffolk, Va., December 24. - Amid the active preparations for a joyous Christmas, the family of Mr. W.H. Folk was thrown into the depths of despair this afternoon about 4 o'clock by the sudden and terrible death of their three-year-old son, Michael, which was caused by poisoning. Early in the afternoon Mrs. Folk put the little fellow to sleep for his usual nap and left him in her chamber upstairs, she resuming her household duties. When the little fellow awoke he doubtless went to a wash stand in which was a bottle of strychnine that had been in the house for five years, and probably thinking it was sugar he ate some of the deadly drug. He soon felt its effects and went down to his mother, who saw that he was in great pain and imagined that he had eaten a piece of cocoanut and been choked by it. She immediately summoned her husband and a physician, but nothing could be done to relieve the little sufferer, and he died in great agony in about a half hour after his condition became known. The physician stated that death was caused by poison, and upon investigation it was discovered that the child had gotten the strychnine. The father and mother are almost prostrated with grief, and the terrible affliction has cast a gloom over their large circle of relatives and friends. The funeral will take place from the residence at 3 o'clock to-morrow (Saturday) afternoon. [...] ****************************************************************************** VIRGINIA NEWS.
