Many Matters of Interest Picked Up in and Around Town. Suffolk, Va., August 22. - Mr. Peter F. Farley died suddenly Sunday morning about 12:30 o'clock of heart failure, aged about 69 years. He had been in failing health for several years, suffering principally from heart and bronchial troubles, and his death was characteristic of his complaint. A little more than two years ago Mr. Farley professed faith in Christ under the preaching of Rev. C.J. Jones, D.D. He was a man of many excellent traits of character and was beloved by all who knew him. "Uncle Peter," as he was familiarly known, had been a resident of Suffolk for about twenty-seven years, having come here from Norfolk in 1871. Several times he held the position of Town Sergeant here and was, prior to coming to Suffolk, twice sergeant of police in Norfolk. When Mr. Farley first came to this town he and Mr. J.R. McGuire, now deceased, proprietors, conducted the old Washington Hotel. He has since held various positions here, as clerk at the Commercial Hotel, the Stuart House, caterer for the restaurant of Mr. William Gray and others. He leaves a wife and five sons, Messrs. Charles E., W.J., C.W., R.F. and H.G. Farley; two daughters, Misses Cora V. and Elsie M.; five brothers, Messrs. R.R. of Jarretts [sic; Jarratts], Va.; George, of La Grange, Tenn.; Pitman, of Mississippi; Lawrence R., of Richmond, Va.; Andrew D., of Brooklyn, N.Y., and a host of friends to mourn their loss. His funeral took place from the house, on Riddick street, at 5 o'clock this afternoon and was conducted by Rev. W.T. Green, assisted by Rev. J.H. Kabler. Tom Smith Camp, of which he was an honorable member, headed by a detachment from the Phoenix Brass Band, attended in a body to do honor to their beloved and valiant comrade in the Lost Cause. A large concourse of relatives and friends followed the remains to Cedar Hill Cemetery, where they were laid to rest, the following old veterans acting as pallbearers: Messrs. J.B. Daughtrey, G.W.
