FARLEY TAKEN BY DEATH Widow of P. F. Farley Succumbs Last Night At Home of Daughter In Roduco; Funeral From Residence of Son Here Tomorrow. Mrs. Virginia S. Farley, widow of P.E. [sic; P.F.] Farley, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J.E. Lilly, in Roduco, N.C., Thursday night at 6:50 o'clock after a brief illness, aged 82 years. She is survived by four children: two daughters, Mrs. C.H. Smith, of New Bern, N.C., Mrs. J.E. Lilly, of Roduco, N.C.; two sons, R.F. Farley, and H.C. Farley, both of Suffolk. The body was brought to Suffolk and will be taken to the home of her son, H.C. Farley, in Saratoga Street, where funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. Interment will be made in Cedar Hill cemetery. ****************************************************************************** Funeral Services MRS. VIRGINIA S. FARLEY Funeral services for Mrs. Virginia S. Farley were held this afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at the funeral parlors of I.O. Hill & Company, conducted by the Rev. S.K. Emurian and Rev. C.E. Pleasants. A quartette composed of Mrs. Vivian Brinkley, Miss Odelle Austin, W.T. Mathews and W.W. Ballard, rendered the selections, "God Will Take Care of You" and "In The Sweet Bye and Bye." There were many handsome floral tributes, the casket being covered with pink gladiolus and fern. Active pallbearers were W.A. Pharis, H.D. Little, Jr., W.T. Bailey, Harvey Butler, Chester Ragsdale, H.L. Daughtrey, Simon Lawrence, Frank Holladay; Honorary, J.W. Brinkley, Archie Brothers, Ed Eure, Lynn Baker, John B. Norfleet, J. Walter Hosier, Walter Eason, H. Powell, Lum Duke, Col. R.L. Brewer, C.O. Harrell, W.G. Elam, Hersey Woodward, L.P. Hill. Interment was made in Cedar Hill cemetery. Virginia S. (GLEMM; Mrs. Peter F.) Norfolk, VA. The maiden name of her mother is illegible; Ancestry.com gives SIMMER, but I think it starts with L. Her parents were actually emigrants from Germany, though their children were all b. in VA. Her father, a butcher, cut his throat with a razor 14 Nov 1860. The 1870 Census - Second Ward, Norfolk - gives age 46, Retired Grocer. He may have been widower John WEBBER (1812 England - 1869 Norfolk), a USN gunner.
