MRS. BESSIE FREEMAN 

  Funeral services for Mrs. Bessie Jenkins Freeman were held Saturday 
afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at the residence, 129 Wellons street, conducted by 
the Rev. H.J. Goodwin and Dr. N.G. Newman.  A quartet composed of Mrs. W.A. 
Hart, Mrs. R.H. Jacobs, J.R. Vann and Rev. L.A. Harrison, accompanied by Miss 
Velma Carr, rendered the selections "Sometime We'll Understand" and "It Is 
Well With My Soul."  A solo, "Face to Face" was sung by Oma H. Parker. 

  There were many beautiful floral tributes, the casket was covered with a 
pall of white rose-buds and fern. 

  Active pallbearers were George S. Swain, J. Will Jordan, John Freeman, J.R. 
Vann, H.L. Jacobs, J.S. Davis, Dr. J.E. Rawles, Anderson M. Maxey.  Friends 
of the family were honorary pallbearers. 

  Interment was in Cedar Hill cemetery.

Her daughter Alma Fisher (FREEMAN; Mrs. Sidney C.) HAYES (1887 - 1982) 
   is buried in the same lot.  Alma's m.rec. gives her father as Walter.

Bessie was a daughter of Henry Joseph & Donna Maria (SEARS) JENKINS. 

Her father (ca. 1833 - 1880) was a Confederate veteran, having served as 
   Second Lieutenant in Co. A, 15th Battalion NC Cavalry.
