All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ FARRAR RITES THURSDAY AT 3 Former Resident Dies While On Visit To Sisters; To Be Buried Here Funeral rites for Mrs. Lena Beale Farrar, of Roanoke, who died at Lakeview hospital here yesterday afternoon, will be conducted Thursday, at 3 o'clock, from Suffolk Christian church. Mrs. Farrar, widow of W.G. Farrar, became ill several days ago while visiting her sisters in Suffolk, Mrs. J.E. West and Miss Effie Beale. Her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Costen, had been at her bedside since her admission to the hospital. She was a daughter of the late Rev. Edwin Beale and Mrs. Eliza J. Beale, and besides her daughter, is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Junius Edgar West and Miss Effie Beale, of Suffolk; a brother, Edwin Beale, of Nansemond County; two nieces, Mrs. Henry Bowen Frazier, Jr., of Richmond, and Mrs. Maurice Herndon, of Kinston, N.C.; two nephews, Rosser W. West, of Newport News, and Alton T. West, of Elon College. She was a member of the Suffolk Christian Church, and during her long life in Suffolk was an active member of the church societies and of the charitable organizations of the community. She was a musician of ability and was professor of music at Elen College during its early years. The rites for Mrs. Farrar will be conducted by the Rev. Dr. John O. Truitt, pastor of Suffolk Christian church. Burial will be in Cedar Hill cemetery. Pall-bearers have been designated as follows: active: Rosser B. West, Alton T. West, Maurice G. Herndon, Henry B. Frazier, Jr., Jesse F. West, Jr., E.E. Jones, W.V. Leathers, Jack W. Nurney; honorary: Board of Deacons of Suffolk Christian Church.
