ESTELLE GIBBS SMITHFIELD - Mrs. [sic*] Estelle Gibbs, 59, died Tuesday in Riverside Hospital, Newport News, after a long illness. A native of Tyrrell County, N.C., she was a daughter of Lloyd O. and Mrs. Edith Dodge [Gibbs]. She was a grocery operator and a Methodist. Surviving are two sons, Jack Gibbs of Smithfield and Freddie Gibbs of Manquin; five sisters, Mrs. Mildred Tetterton and Mrs. Emma Drewry [sic*] of Smithfield, Mrs. Thelma Graves of Virginia Beach, Mrs. Edna Pearl Edwards of South Norfolk, and Mrs. Florine Coley of Norfolk; a brother, W.I. Gibbs of Baltimore; and nine grandchildren. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in Colonial Funeral Home by the Rev. Edward M. Garrett Jr. of Benn's United Methodist Church. A native of Tyrell County, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd O. Gibbs and Edith Dodge Gibbs. She was a member of the Methodist Church and a merchant. She is survived by two sons, Jack Gibbs of Smithfield and Freddie Gibbs of Manquin, Virginia; five sisters, Mrs. Mildred Tetterton and Mrs. Emma Drewery [sic*] of Smithfield, Mrs. Thelma Graves of Virginia Beach, Mrs. Edna Pearl Edwards of South Norfolk, and Mrs. Florine Coley of Norfolk; one brother, W.L. [sic; W.I.] Gibbs of Baltimore, Maryland; and nine grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, July 27, at 2:00 from the Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield, by the Rev. Edward M. Garrett, Jr., pastor of Benn's United Methodist Church. Interment was in Holly Lawn Cemetery, Suffolk, Virginia. Pallbearers were Leslie Brickhouse, Frank Latimer, Roland Spady, Victor White, Bobby Dickerson and Arnold Bartlett. Her son Jack (b. ca. 1931, Tyrrell Co., NC) & Charlotte Ann MARTIN m. 14 Dec 1951; they div. in 1959. M.Cert. 36639 (Isle of Wight Co. #118) gives his father as George Roy BRICKHOUSE.
