Gaskins Funeral services for Richard L. Gaskins, well-known Suffolk merchant, and member of an old Nansemond family, were conducted yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the home, "Rose Hill," in Kingsboro by Dr. A.L. Franklin, pastor of Main Street Methodist Church. Burial was in Cedar Hill cemetery. During the services Dr. Franklin read the hymn, "Lead, Kindly Light," and at the grave he read Tennyson's poem, "Crossing the Bar." There were many handsome floral designs. Active pallbearers were nephews: Vernon G., Earle T., F. Bruce and George K. Eberwine; F. Marion, Richard and Irving T. Arthur, and James L. Edwards. ****************************************************************************** RICHARD L. GASKINS Richard L. Gaskins, 67, died at his home, Rose Hill, in Kingsboro Suffolk 1 a.m. Thurs. following a long illness which recently forced his retirement from business after a career of more than 40 years as a merchant in Suffolk. Mr. Gaskins was a member of prominent Nansemond families on both sides of his family. He was a son of the late John Richard and Fannie Savage Gaskins. Going to Suffolk as a young man he established the Gaskins Music Company and did a thriving business for many years. With his health failing, Mr. Gaskins sold his establishment this spring and it is continuing to operate under his firm name. Mr. Gaskins was a member of Main Street Methodist Church. Surviving him are his widow Mrs. Anna Hurff Gaskins, of Suffolk and a daughter, Miss Frances Gaskins, of Croizer [sic; Crozier] and Suffolk; five sisters: Mrs. L. Frank Ames, Mrs. John G. Eberwine, Mrs. Gertrude Arthur, Mrs. Glenwood Brinkley, all of Driver; and Mrs. Charles S. Berger of Norfolk; also a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted at the Gaskins residence Friday at 3 P.M. by the rev. Dr. A.L. Franklin. Active pall-bearers, all nephews of the deceased, were Vernon G., Eart T., S. Bruce and George K. Eberwine; F. Marion, R.G., Irving T., and James S. Arthur, and James L. Edwards, all of Driver. Burial was in Cedar Hill cemetery.
