Godwin, 78, Buried Wednesday John Thomas Godwin, 78, died at 1:40 P.M. November 7, 1955, at his home near Windsor after an illness of a few weeks. He was the son of the late William [sic; Willis] Henry Godwin and Anna L. Heath Godwin, of Isle of Wight County. He was a member and deacon of the Antioch Christian Church, and a member of the Men's Bible Class. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lee Anna Holland Godwin, of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Elsie Edwards of Portsmouth, and Mrs. Louise Strothman, of Warwick; two sons, J. Hobdy Godwin, of Windsor, and Curtis S. Godwin of Suffolk; two sisters, Mrs. Maude Godwin Bell of Suffolk, and Mrs. Rosa Godwin Harrell of Richmond; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at 2:30 P.M. at the I.O. Hill Funeral Home by the Rev. R.E. Brittle, pastor of Bethlehem Christian Church, assisted by the Rev. Ellis N. Clark and the Rev. T. Fred Rite [sic; Wright]. Burial was in Holly Lawn Cemetery. I, 3rd VA Infantry. His mother, Anna L. (HEATH JOHNSON HOLLAND) GODWIN (1842 - 1919), applied for a pension 8 Jun 1906 in Suffolk. Her first husband, Edwin Eley JOHNSON was also a Confederate soldier, serving as a corporal in Co. E, 9th VA Infantry; he died of wounds, 12 Jun 1864. She is buried in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suffolk - Block I, Lot 51.
