THE DEATH OT A FORMER NANSEMONDER [...] Suffolk, Va., July 16. - (Special.) - [...] DIED IN NORFOLK. - Mrs. Lizzie Godwin, relict of the late Julius Caesar Godwin, a former Nansemonder and at one time a resident of Suffolk, died in Norfolk on Wednesday, July 15, 1896, after a long illness. Her remains were brought to Suffolk to-day, and after funeral services at St. Paul's P.E. Church, the rector, Rev. W.A. Barr, officiating, the remains were deposited in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Godwin was an aunt of Mrs. Wallace Kilby and a near relative of Messrs. T.W., H.E. and R.R. Smith. "Lizzie" Elizabeth S. (Mrs. Julius C.) (Find a Grave Mem. #90274244) Her connections to the relatives named are not clear, because of the loss of the Nansemond Co. records. Confederate veteran Wallace KILBY's mother was a SMITH; his wife "Maggie" A. (TYNES) KILBY's mother was a POWELL. T.W., and bros. H.E. & R.R. SMITH were all Confederate veterans, and their mothers were POWELL's.
