Gautier Killed in Accident Norman Thomas Gautier, of 109 North Street, was instantly killed last night at 7:15 o'clock in an automobile accident near Hodges Ferry which left William R. Simmons, of 103 S. Broad Street, Suffolk, in a critical condition. Gautier, 69, was killed and Simmons injured when a car driven by Simmons reportedly left the road at a curve on Route 337 and struck two trees. Hospital attaches at Maryview Hospital in Portsmouth reported this morning that Simmons was still unconscious and that his condition was "critical." Widow Survives Surviving Gautier are his widow, Mrs. Norman Gautier of Suffolk, two daughters, Mrs. J.C. Salmon, of Suffolk, and Mrs. Dorothy Grayboles [sic; Grayboyes] of Los Angeles, California, two sons, Cpl. Melvin T. Gautier of Fort Story and Cecil P. Gautier of Suffolk. Also 9 grandchildren, two sisters, Miss Lula Gautier of Mount Olive, N.C., and Miss Clyde L. Gautier of Suffolk, four step children, J.C. Salmon, Henry Salmon, Stanley P. Salmon, and Mrs. W.M. Wurtemberg [sic; M.W. Writtenberry], all of Suffolk. The body was brought to the I.O. Hill Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 2:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon with services by Reverend Graham R. McChesney and Dr. John G. Truitt. Burial will be in Oakland Church cemetery at Chuckatuck. ****************************************************************************** Suffolk, Nov. 17. - Funeral services for Norman T. Gautier, 59-year-old Suffolk man who was killed Monday night in an automobile wreck near Hodges Ferry, were held this afternoon at the I.O. Hill Funeral Home here. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Graham McChesney, pastor of the Suffolk Presbyterian Church, and Dr. John R. Truitt, pastor of the Suffolk Christian Church. Burial was in Oakland Christian Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Clarence Clary, W.F. Surring, Raleigh Fanney, Woodrow Salmon, Chester Paulson, Ryland Johnson, John Salmon and Thomas Salmon. Honorary pallbearers were friends of the family. Gautier is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. J.C. Salmon, of Suffolk, and Mrs. Dorothy Grayboles, of Los Angeles; two sons, Corporal Melvin T. Gautier, of Fort Story, and Cecil P. Gautier, of Suffolk; two sisters, Mrs. Lula Gautier, of Mount Olive, N.C., and Miss Clyde L. Gautier, of Suffolk; four stepchildren, J.C., Henry and Stanley P. Salmon, and Mrs. W.M. Writtenbury [sic; M.W. Writtenberry], of Suffolk, and nine grandchildren. ****************************************************************************** Gautier Funeral Held Yesterday Funeral services for Norman Thomas Gautier was held at 1:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon at the I.O. Hill and Co. Funeral Home. Services were conducted by Rev. Graham C. McChesney and Dr.John G. Truitt. Burial was at Oakland Church cemetery. Mrs. William C. Gibson and Mrs. Henry M. Pinner sang "Does Jesus Care?" and "Abide With Me." The casket was covered with a pall of white mums, red roses, and fern. Active pall bearers were Clarence Clary, W.F. Burring, Raleigh Fanney, Woodrow Salmon, Chatter Poulson, Ryland Johnson, John Salmon, and Thomas Salmon. Friends of the family were honorary pall bearers.
