DOC A. GWALTNEY 

  CHUCKATUCK - Doc Allen Gwaltney, 69, of RFD 4, Suffolk, died at Louise Obici 
Hospital at 8:40 a.m. today after a short illness. 

  He was employed for 20 years with the Norfolk Water Department as a fish 
warden, retiring in Feb. 1965. 

  A native of Isle of Wight County, he was a son of the late George L. 
Gwaltney Sr. and Mrs. Annie Uzzell Gwaltney and was the husband of Mrs. 
Ethel C. Gwaltney. 

  He was a member of Oakland Christian Church and the Dr. I.W. Johnson Bible 
Class of the church. 

  In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Francis Allen Gwaltney 
of Nansemond County and Dale Atwood Gwaltney of Hampton; four daughters, Mrs. 
Waverly L. Whitley of Newport News, Mrs. Edward E. Johnson of Zuni, Mrs. 
George Alix Powell of Suffolk and Mrs. Irvin A. Garner of Nansemond County; 
two brothers, George Lafayette Gwaltney Jr. of Chuckatuck and Elton M. 
Gwaltney of Smithfield; one sister, Mrs. Jack L. Bailey of Minot, N. Dakota; 
and 10 grandchildren. 

  Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Oakland Christian 
Church by the pastor, the Rev. Dwight W. Moore.  Burial will be in the church 
cemetery. 

  The body will be taken from the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home to the church 
one hour prior to the funeral.
