Mr. Griffin was the husband of Mrs. Sallie Emma Holland Griffin, and the son of the late Benjamin R. and Lydia Ferguson Griffin of this community. He was born near Newsoms, April 9, 1874. He was a member of South Quay Baptist Church, serving as a deacon for many years. Besides his wife he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. George Whitehead, Jr. of Ahoskie and Miss Lydia Griffin of Holland; two sons, J.P. Griffin of Pensacola, Fla. and J.E. Griffin of Holland; five grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. L.P. Williams of Capron and Mrs. P.B. Edwards of Courtland. Services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the residence by the Rev. H.L. Lumpkin, his pastor, assisted by the Rev. R.D. Stephenson of Franklin. Burial took place in Poplar Spring Cemetery here, pallbearers being J.L. Rawls, Roland Clark, B.W. Daughtrey, Hudson Howell, W.E. Beale, W.A. Jones, Garland Saunders and Percy Vaughan.
