[sic] GRIGGS Funeral services for Mrs. Erma C. Griggs were held Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at the grave in Oakland Christian Church cemetery conducted by the Rev. H.J. Goodwin. A trio composed of Mrs. W.A. Hart, Mrs. R.H. Jacobs, and W.W. Ballard, accompanied by Alton Howell, rendered the hymns, "God Will Take Care of You" and "Abide With Me." There were many beautiful floral tributes, the casket being covered with a double spray of lilies and fern. Active pallbearers were J.M. Melito, J.F. Mizelle, R.B. Fanney, S.L. Hines, L.K. Harrell, J.C. Salmon, J.H. Salmon, B.H. Evick. Honorary pallbearers were friends of the family. Erma Elizabeth (SLAVIN; Mrs. Walter L.) GRIGGS was b. 6 Jul 1875, out of wedlock to Arena C. GRIGGS; reported by grandmother Ascension GRIGGS. (Nansemond Co. B.Reg. 1875 #57) Walter, b. 6 Jul 1875, son of Irene C. GRIGGS, d. 28 Apr 1921, and was buried 29 Apr 1921, by R.W. Baker & Co. - all in Nansemond Co.
