All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Last Rites Sunday For David Gardner Funeral services tor David Gardner, aged 38, who was killed late yesterday afternoon, by falling logs near Waverly, will be held Sunday afternoon at the funeral home of I.O. Hill & Co. at 2:30. The Rev. R.E. Brittle will officiate. Burial will be made in the Cypress Chapel cemetery. An employee of the J.S. Perry Lumber Company, Mr. Gardner was widely known in Suffolk. While unloading the truck of logs, Mr. Gardner was struck by a falling log which crushed his chest. Mr. Gardner is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ethel Gardner; a daughter, Marjorie Gardner; a son, David Benjamin. Gardner, all of Suffolk; his mother, Mrs. Mary Gardner, of Zuni; a sister, Mrs. Mary Joyner, of Zuni; a brother, Robert Gardner, of Capron; three half sisters, Mrs. Alice Ashley, of Suffolk, Mrs. Lizzie Turner, of Zuni, and Miss Susie Gardner, of Zuni; three half brothers, Adolphus Gardner, of Magnolia, Joshua Gardner of Nurneyville, and Ray Gardner of Suffolk. ****************************************************************************** Last Rites Are Held For David Gardner Funeral Services for David Gardner were held yesterday afternoon at the I.O. Hill funeral home at 2:30 with the Rev. R.E. Brittle officiating. The Rev. Mr. Brittle, accompanied by Miss Mary Jones, sang "Sweet Peace, The Gift Of God's Love." Miss Hazel Carr sang "God’s Tomorrow." Mrs. A.E. Byrum sang "No Disappointment In Heaven." The casket spray was of ascension lillies and white gladiloli. Active pallbearers were Zacky Perry, Joe Perry, Starkey Perry, Fermer Perry, Linwood Brinkley, Simmie Horton, Ralph O'Berry and J. W. Brinkley. Friends of the family acted as honorary pallbearers. Burial was made in the Cypress Chapel cemetery.
