Hill and Co. Funeral Home, Suffolk, by the Rev. L.F. Smith. Burial was in Holly Lawn Cemetery, Suffolk. Pallbearers were J. Edward Howell, Burk H. Howell, Mason Page, Vernon H. Clark, John Robert Langston, James J. Jones, Jack Cutchins and Thad H. Evans. Gardner, 83, died Wednesday night in his home after a brief illness. A native of Nansemond County, he was a retired farmer. He was a member of South Quay Baptist Church. He was the husband of the late Mrs. Annie Irene Lawrence Gardner and a son of John Lawrence and Mrs. Sarah Alice Marsh Gardner. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Alice G. Rollings of Wakefield and Mrs. Evelyn G. Freeman of the home; two sisters, Mrs. C.E. Howell of Suffolk and Mrs. Willis L. Lawrence of Gates, N.C.; a brother, H.G. Gardner of Nansemond County; three grandchildren; and a great grandchild.
