Gardner, 24, invalid daughter of Willie U. and Elnora Vaughan Gardner, died unexpectedly Sunday morning, June 13, at her home near Franklin. Besides her parents, she leaves one sister, Mrs. Carrie Turner of Franklin, and three brothers, Joseph [...*], Willis [...*] and Robert Gardner all of Franklin. Funeral services were conducted at the W.J.M. Holland & Sons chapel on Tuesday with the Rev. Preston Chappell, pastor of the South Quay Baptist Church, officiating. Burial was in the family cemetery near Elwood. Active pallbearers were Jack Kauss, Sam Darden, Joseph Darden, Roy Darden, John Robert Turner and Clarence C. Clark. Mary V. GARDNER, daughter of Willie U. and Elnora (VAUGHAN) GARDNER, d. 13 Jun 1954, at home, near Franklin, age 24, interred in the GARDNER family cemetery**, near Elwood, 15 Jun 1954, "The Tidewater News" (Franklin, VA), June 17, 1954 **Elwood, located where Elwood Rd. (Rt. 613) crosses the Norfolk-Southern rail line, was only the R.R. station between Franklin & Holland. The GARDNER family cemetery is included in Nansemond Co. Miscellaneous Cemeteries, Vol. 4 (IV-6), an extension of the Southampton Co. There is a line running through the print at the top and middle of many of the papers and it effected many of the obits. I've put elipses for the part that's missing.
