GARDNER Mrs. Margaret Gardner, wife of Matthew Gardner, died at 2:10 o'clock this afternoon at her home at Exit, Va., aged about 65 years. Mrs. Gardner had been ill about a month, and had gone way to a hospital for treatment, but without permanent benefit. The burial will take place Sunday in the family cemetery. The deceased, formerly Miss Margaret McClenny of Southampton county, Va., is survived by a widower, four sons - George N. Gardner, J.M. Gardner, J.W. Gardner and E.B. Gardner, and two brothers - James McClenny of Southampton county and John McClenny of Isle of Wight county. Her husband was a Confederate veteran. He was conscripted from the militia into Co. I, 41st VA Infantry, then transferred to Co. A, 18th Battalion VA Heavy Artillery. He died 1 Aug 1917 in Suffolk, and was buried in Nansemond Co. Her brother James Madison McCLENNY (1844 - 1912), also a Confederate veteran, is buried in a McCLENNY family cemetery in Sedley, on the edge of the Sedley Baptist Church parking lot.
