A native of Gates County, N.C., he was the son of the late Robert Edward Greene and Laura Grizzell Briscoe Greene. He had retired as a maintenance machinist in March 1984 after 29 years of service at J. Thomas Lipton Tea Co. Greene was a member of Holy Neck United Church of Christ. Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Edith G. Henderson of Norfolk and Mrs. Louise G. Whitt of Suffolk; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. by the Revs. E. Cecil Smith and Charles W. Thompson in Hill Funeral Home. Burial will be in Holland Cemetery. The family will receive visitors Saturday from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home, and other times at 1116 Myrtle St., the home of Mrs. Whitt. Memorial donations may be made to the Nansemond-Suffolk Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O.
