He was the son of the late Jesse and Jeanette Rountree Hobbs, of Gates County. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Carrie Ward Hobbs; a daughter, Mrs. Curtis Williams, both of Suffolk; three sons, Earl Hobbs, of Richmond; Oma [sic; Ora] Hobbs, of Suffolk and Staley Hobbs, United States Navy, stationed at Key West, Florida; two sisters, Mrs. Ike Sykes, of Murfreesboro, N.C., and Mrs. E.E. Mathews, of Suffolk; three brothers, Warren Hobbs, of Norfolk, Rufus and Junius Hobbs, both of Hobbsville, N.C.; several nieces and nephews. The body was taken to the I.O. Hill and Company Funeral Home, where funeral services will be conducted tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o'clock by Dr. Duane N. Vore, pastor of the Suffolk Christian Church. Burial will take place in Holly Lawn Cemetery. ****************************************************************************** George Abel Hobbs Suffolk, Feb. 9. - Funeral services for George Abel Hobbs, who died Friday night, were held at 2:30 p.m. at the I.O. Hill and Company Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Duane N. Vore, pastor of Suffolk Christian Church. Burial was in Holly Lawn Cemetery. Pallbearers were J.M. Edwards, P.G. Cox, Z. Turner, Clarence Brickle, R.W. White, Tom Parker, Harvey Williams and W.L. Pierce. ****************************************************************************** GEORGE A. HOBBS Funeral services for George Abel Hobbs, who died of a heart attack Friday night at his home at 311 Central Avenue, were held yesterday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the I.O. Hill and Company Funeral Home with Dr. Duane N. Vore, pastor of the Suffolk Christian Church, officiating. Interment followed in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Dr. Vore read three poems: "My Dead," "A Comrade Rides Ahead" and "Crossing the Bar." The pall was of red roses and white carnations. Pallbearers were J.M. Edwards, P.G. Cox, Z. Turner, Clarence Brickle, R.W. White, Tom Parker, Harry Williams and W.L. Pierce.
