Heffington, 44, of Walters, Va., died Friday after a short illness. Mrs. Heffington survived her husband just one week. She is survived by four young children: Gladys, Lelia, Evelyn [sic; Eley], and Joyner Heffington; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.E.T. Joyner, of Walters; three sisters, Mrs. S. Lynn [sic; Leon] Lewis, Mrs. Otelia Johnson, of Zuni, and Miss Doris Joyner, of Walters; three brothers, J.F. Joyner, of Suffolk; Otis and Edward Joyner, Walters. She was a niece of Major M.W. Joyner, of Suffolk. Funeral services will be held at Mount Carmel Church Saturday afternoon at 1 o'clock by Rev. E.T. White. The body will be interred in Mount Carmel Cemetery. The 1900 Census - Sleepy Hole Dist., Nansemond Co. - does gives b. Aug 1878. Her husband's obits ("Virginian-Pilot and the Norfolk Landmark," Feb. 15 & 16, 1923) do not mention Mary or the children; they are posted at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/va/nansemond/obits/h152r2ob.txt He is buried in Churchland Baptist Church Cemetery, Chesapeake.
