He was 52 years old and is survived by two sisters, Miss Mollie Heffington, and Mrs. J.E. Stringer. The funeral will be conducted at 4 o'clock this afternoon at the grave in Churchland Cemetery. ****************************************************************************** FUNERALS [...] Robert Lee Heffington, who died last Wednesday night in his residence in West Norfolk, was burled yesterday afternoon in Churchland Cemetery. The funeral service was conducted at the grave at 4 o'clock, Rev. W.V. Savage, pastor of Churchland Baptist Church, conducted the services. The pallbearers were as follows: A.W. Johnson, Henry Norfleet, W.M. Dennis, Jr., Leon Heffington, Oscar Heffington and J.E. Stringer, Jr. Robert E. B.Reg. - Sleepy Hole Dist. #8. D.Cert. 8341 (Western Branch #9) gives b. 16 Sep 1871; the informant was his sister Alexina. The 1900 Census - Sleepy Hole Dist., Nansemond Co. - gives b. Sep 1870. His gravestone shows b. 23 Sep 1870, d. 23 Feb 1923; a photo of it - added by Dylan Thomas - is posted with Find a Grave Memorial #210484901. His sisters "Mollie" Mary Ann HEFFINGTON (1866 - 1940) & Alexina (HEFFINGTON) STRINGER (1857 - 1938), and his daughter Gladys Eve (HEFFINGTON) GANZERT (1905 - 1958) are also buried there. Their brother William Landrum HEFFINGTON, Sr. (1857 - 1922), is buried in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suffolk - Block G, Lot 110. M.Reg. {BVS copy} p. 120 #3) Curiously, Robert's obit fails to mention his wife Mary Etta (JOYNER) HEFFINGTON or their four children - Gladys, Robert Joyner, Lelia Ann & Eley Smith HEFFINGTON. Mary died eight days after Robert; she is buried with her parents & step-mother in Mt. Carmel Christian Church Cemetery, Walters. Mt.
