Fatal Accident Said Unavoidable 

  Sheriff Frank Culpepper has absolved Miss Mary Jane Oliver, 26, of Norfolk, 
of blame for tbe death on Saturday night of Oscar Huskey, 61, Nansemond County 
farm laborer, who was fatally injured when struck by Miss Oliver's automobile 
on Route 58 near Holland. 

  Miss Oliver, however, was held on a technical charge of manslaughter and 
then released on $1,000 bond. 

  The sheriff's son, Deputy Sheriff J. Frank Culpepper, Jr., an eyewitness to 
the accident, said that Huskey stepped in front of Miss Oliver's car as she 
was passing his car, which was parked on the highway. 

  Young Culpepper said he had noticed Huskey and another man, James Thorp, 
walking down the highway toward Holland and had stopped to pick them up when 
he was passed by Miss Oliver.  Thorp, Culpepper said, was arrested for 
drunkeness. 

  Huskey was a native of Roanoke and for the past three years had worked on 
the J.L. Pulley farm at Lummis in Nansemond County.  He was unmarried.  The 
body was taken to the I.O. Hill Funeral Home in Suffolk, pending funeral 
arrangements.
