All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Mrs. Sarah Hedgepeth Buried Here Monday Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Parker Hedgepeth, who died Saturday, were conducted Monday at 2 p.m. at Colosse Baptist Church by the Rev. Donald Trump, pastor. Burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Mr. Trump read a poem entitled, "Goodnight." The church choir sang "Going Down the Valley." A quartet composed of Mrs. Loften Rhodes, Mrs. Presley Carr, Aubrey Spivey and Melvin Spivey sang "Beyond The Sunset." They were accompanied at the organ by Mrs. John Avis, organist. The casket was covered with a pall of pink carnations and deep pink roses. Pallbearers were Linwood Duck, Clayton Darden, Raymond Darden, J.P. Carr, Dr. C.C. Crossland, Ralston Rhodes, John Ballard and Cassie Turner. "Sallie" Sarah A. PARKER was a Confederate veteran, having served as a private in Co. B, 43rd AL Infantry. A native of Troup Co., GA, son of Elvington H. & Thomason T. (PERKINS) PARKER, he m. Martha A.S.A/G. GRIGGS, 5 Jul 1866. (Nansemond Co. #33) He is marked in Colosse Baptist Church Cemetery. Her maternal grandfather Benjamin GRIGGS (ca. 1818 - 1873) was also a Confederate veteran, having served as a private in the 59th VA Militia.
