July 21. - R. B. Howell, a former resident of Suffolk, died last night at ten o'clock at the residence of his son, J. C. Howell, 735 Olney Road, Norfolk, Va. after a lingering illness for nearly four years. He was 73 years old. He is survived by his widow and eight children, Mrs. Horace Nelms, Miss Pearl Howell, J. C. and R. L. Howell of Norfolk; Mrs. Annie L. Turner, Mrs. J. P. Duke, H. H. and J. D. Howell of Suffolk, two brothers, J. E. Howell of Suffolk and Euclid Howell of Concord, N. C. Twenty two grandchildren and two great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. He was a member of the Suffolk Baptist Church. His body will be brought to Suffolk this afternoon to the home of his son, J. D. Howell, 313 Jackson Street. Funeral arrangements have not been completed. Internment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. He is survived by a widow who was Miss Jennie Bradshaw of Southampton County, four daughters, Mrs. Annie Cones, Suffolk, Mrs. Matthew Dukes, Nansemond County; Mrs. May Nelms, and Miss Pearl Howell of this city; four sons J. D. and H. H. Howell of Suffolk, J. D. and R. L. Howell of Norfolk, two brothers E. W. Howell of Como, N. C. and J. E. Howell of Norfolk. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the home of his son, J. D. Howell, 313 Jackson Street, Suffolk tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 o’clock. Rev. W. W. Staley, pastor of the Christian church of Suffolk will officiate. Internment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
