Holladay, who saw Confederate service in the Sixteenth Virginia Regiment, died early today at the home of her son, A.F. Holladay, near Copeland, aged 83 years. Mrs. Holladay had been ill four months with rheumatism. The funeral will take place at 3 o’clock tomorrow afternoon from the Suffolk Methodist Church. The deceased was a member of that denomination. The burial will occur in Cedar Hill. Mrs. Holladay was among the most elderly women in the county. When she grew reminiscent of conversation, relating as it did happenings half a century or more old, was very interesting. The deceased leaves one son, A.F. Holladay, and four grandchildren, Miss Katherine B., Frank A., John C. and Joseph E.B. Holladay. All the grandchildren live in Suffolk. The deceased, a daughter of Dixon Pinner, was born in Isle of Wight County. She was a sister of the late Mrs. William R. Ellis, of Suffolk, and was one of eight children, all of whom preceded her to the grave by many years. ****************************************************************************** SUFFOLK. Many Matters of Interest Picked Up in and Around Town. Special to the Landmark. Suffolk, October 27. - This morning at one o'clock at the residence of her son, Mr. Al. F. Holladay, about six miles west of Suffolk, Mrs. Susan Holladay died at the advanced age of 83 years. Besides her son, she leaves four grand-children, Messrs. John C., Frank, Joseph, and Miss Kate Holladay, and a large circle of other relatives and friends to mourn their loss. True to her friends, herself, her family and her God, she passed away in perfect peace, prepared to meet her Maker. The deceased was a faithful member of the Main Street M.E. Church here, at which place her funeral will be conducted at 3 o'clock to-morrow (Sunday) afternoon. [...] ****************************************************************************** MRS. EMILY SUSAN PINNER HOLLADAY The funeral of the late Mrs. Emily Susan Holladay took place Sunday afternoon from the Methodist Church. Rev. William T. Green, pastor, was assisted by Revs. Joseph R. Dunn and W.W. Staley, D.D. The interment was in Cedar Hill, these being pallbearers: Active - H.E. Smith, E.E. Holland, J.K.P. Daughtery, J. Frank Eley, John M. Shepherd, W.H. Jones, Jr., W.T. Kilby, J.W. Winborne. Honorary - R.E. Smith, V.S. Kilby, A.H. Baker, E.B. Britt, Frank Holland, T.W. Suffolk, October 29. - In the presence of an immense congregation of sorrowing relatives and friends who had gathered at the Main Street M.E. Church at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon to pay the last tribute of respect to the late Mrs. Susan Holladay, Rev. W.T. Green conducted the funeral services of that most estimable lady, whose silver hair had crossed the portals of death with honor to herself, her friends and God. The remains were laid to rest in Cedar Hill Cemetery to await the summons of Him in whom she had put her trust.
