All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ JOSEPH EDWARD BRIDGER HOLLADAY FORMER MAYOR TO BE BURIED AT SUFFOLK SUFFOLK - April 12 - (AP) - the funeral of Joseph Edward Bridger Holladay, 65, former Suffolk Mayor, who died early today, will be held at 10:45 A.M. Saturday at I.O. Hill Funeral Home here, and services will be held at 11 A.M. at the grave in Cedar Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Louis Haskell, of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, will officiate, with Masonic rites also being planned at the grave. Mr. Holladay, a native of Suffolk, was the son of the late A. Frank Holladay and Judith Beverly Copeland Holladay. He was educated at Hampden-Sydney College and studied law at Washington and Lee University and University of Virginia. Beginning the practice of law here in 1904, he became a member of the council and was elected the first Mayor after the city's incorporation. Active in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, he also was prominent in Hiram Lodge No. 340, A.F. and A.M. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Margaret Breedon Holladay; one brother, Frank A. Holladay, and one sister, Mrs. R.H. Pretlow, all of Suffolk.
