He was a native of Nansemond County and a retired farmer. He was the husband of Mrs. Pocohontas Holland and son of the late Elijah and Sallie Holland of Nansemond County. He was a member of Liberty Spring Christian Church, a member of the Men's Bible Class and past president, member of the Laymen's Fellowship, Liberty Spring Ruritan Club, McAllister Lodge 185, AF and AM, Mt. Nebo Royal Arch Chapter 20, Khedive Temple, Norfolk and Portsmouth Scottish Rites. He is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Susie R. Butler, Mrs. Viola H. Jernigan and Mrs. Daisy Carr of Nansemond County and a half-sister, Mrs. Nettie Cox of Suffolk. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in Liberty Spring Christian Church by the Rev. H. Raymond Phelts. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Masonic rites at the grave. The body will be taken from the I.O. Hill Funeral Home to the church at 2:30 p.m. ****************************************************************************** George R. Holland Suffolk - George Romie Holland, 74, of Suffolk died Tuesday at his home. A native of Nansemond County, he was a retired farmer, a member of Liberty Springs Christian church, the Men's Bible Class and Layman's Fellowship. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Pocahontas Whitfield Holland; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Garland Bridger of Newport News and Mrs. Raleigh Privott of Richmond; one stepson, J.C. Whitfield of Holland; three sisters, Mrs. Susie R. Butler, Mrs. Viola H. Jernigan and Mrs Daisy Carr, all of Nansemond County; one half-sister, Mrs. Nettie Cox of Suffolk, and seven step-grandchildren. The funeral service will be conducted at 330 pm in Liberty Spring Christian Church, Nansemond County. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
