Mr. Wm. T. Holland, of this place, spoken of as ill in our last "Items," is still in a precarious condition. His trouble seems to be more of a mental, than of a physical nature. The attending physician says he has scarcely any fever, yet he is delirious much of his time. He takes no nourishment, scarcely, at all, and it is with great difficulty that he can be induced to take medicine, and he is therefore daily growing weaker. The doctor thinks his case would be more hopeful, could these difficulties be overcome. Should he not recover, his place will be hard to fill, as he is quite a prominent man in his church and in the community. He has filled several offices of trust in his county, and has been a Notary Public for many years; and in all his business transactions, both private and public, he has been most correct and reliable. He is highly esteemed by his many friends, and is what we might term a model man of the community. [...] R.H. [...] Mr. Wm. T. Holland, spoken of in other items as being ill, passed away peacefully to his rest, June 12, 1899. He had been unconscious most of the time for about three weeks. He was about 71 years old, and leaves a beloved wife and six children, who deeply mourn their loss. He was a man of prominence and will be greatly missed in his community, and especially will he be missed in his church and his home. As head of his family "he ruled his household well," and was a model by which the children could mould their lives and characters. He was a practical man in all his business relations. His farm and all its appurtenance - his granery, his stalls, his stock, all gave evidence of judicious arrangement, constant care and attention. Especially did he set his spiritual house in order, as in his religious duties he was constant and persevering, and he has no doubt entered into that glorious reward promised to the faithful. His funeral services took place the 13th. Services by Rev. Jas. E. Jones, pastor. A large congregation was present. [...] R.H. HOLLAND.
