Birdsong, of this city, was officially notified today of the death in France of Lieut. Herbert Holleman, who was killed in action on the 8th of October, just after he had gone over the top, by a shell. Herbert Holleman had just received his commission as lieutenant and was considered a fine young officer. As a Suffolk boy the young soldier was highly esteemed. He is survived by his father, John Lee Holleman, who is himself critically ill, his mother, one sister, Mrs. Marjorie Holleman Duke, of Washington, D.C.; two brothers, Robert Holleman, U.S. N., and James Holleman, a small boy. Just as the official notice came to Suffolk this morning, the Virginian Pilot, which was being distributed, contained on the Portsmouth page, in a letter from Lieutenant Vaughan to his wife, a description of the death of Herbert Holleman.
