FUNERAL TODAY FOR DR. HUNTER IN WHALEYVILLE SERVICES AT 3:30 P.M. FOR WIDELY KNOWN NANSEMOND COUNTY PHYSICIAN Suffolk, June 18 - Funeral services for Dr. Henry Holmes Hunter, who died last night at 11 o’clock at his home in Whaleyville, will be conducted Monday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock at Whaleyville Methodist Church by the Rev. J.S. Johnston, and burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suffolk. Dr. Hunter was born in Gates County, N.C., the son of Dr. Henry Holmes Hunter, Sr., and Mrs. Hunter, and was educated at the King Military Academy, in Suffolk, once a famous school for boys and young men, and later took his degree in medicine at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. He had been engaged in the practice of medicine for 37 years, 22 of which were spent in Whaleyville and that part of Nansemond County, where he was not only doctor, but friend and adviser for his people. He was member for many years and served as chairman of the Nansemond County School Board. He was also for many years a member of the Nansemond County Democratic executive board of MacAllister Lodge, A.F. and A.M., of Whaleyville, and of the Nansemond County Medical Association, and was a steward in Whaleyville Methodist Church. Of gentle and kindly spirit, his gracious manner and wise help will be long remembered in his community. Surviving Dr. Hunter are his wife, Mrs. Brownie Odom Hunter; three daughters, Miss Patty Hunter and Mrs. F.O. Clarke, of Whaleyville, and Mrs. P.T. Marshall, of Newport News; a grandson, Henry Holmes Hunter Clarke; a sister, Mrs. W.T. Cross, of Gatesville, N.C., and a number of nieces and nephews. Dr. Henry Holmes HUNTER, Jr., b.
