Herrick, 74, who died at a Norfolk hospital at 2 p.m. yesterday of wounds inflicted when he resisted a hold-up on the evening of December 21, will be held at 3:30 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home of I.O. Hill & Co., where the body was brought early last night. Dr. John G. Truitt will conduct the rites. Burial will be in Cedar Hill cemetery. Mr. Herrick, long a resident of Suffolk where he was engaged in the livestock trade and maintained a stable of racing horses, was shot by two young men when he reached for his pistol to defend himself from their robbery attempt. He was accompanied at the time by his employee, J.T. Murden. The shooting occurred on East Coley road. Mr. Herrick's death was attributed to bloodpoisoning. He had failed to rally after being given blood transfusions Friday. His assailants have not been apprehended. Mr. Herrick was one of the most widely-traveled residents of Suffolk. He interspersed his years with travels to the Pacific coast, to all parts of the United States and to foreign countries. Mr. Herrick was born at Kempsville, Princess Anne county, and was the son of the late William Ivey Herrick and Ellen Milburn Herrick. Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Cora Redd Herrick, of Suffolk; two sons, L.H. Herrick, of Norfolk, and Arthur L. Herrick, of Suffolk; a grand-daughter, Miss Lavelle Herrick, of Suffolk; and a sister, Mrs. S.J. Proscher, of Norfolk.
