She 2m. Mills 2 Jun 1910 in DC. D.Cert. 22638 (Kempsville #53) gives daughter of J.W. & Bettie (RIGGINS) SCAMMELL. Rather, her father was William James SCAMMELL, who was a Confederate veteran, having served as a private in Co. D, 10th Battalion VA Heavy Artillery. He 1m. Sarah Bennett RIGGINS, daughter of Samuel & Unity RIGGINS, 18 Apr 1858, in Surry Co. Widowed, he 2m. widow Averilla Elizabeth "Bettie" (GOODRICH) CROPPER, 18 Dec 1881, in Surry Co. Eva's birthdate conflicts with this date. "Bettie RIGGINS" seems a combination of the names of these ladies. Moreover, William & Bettie appear in the 1900 Census - Bland Dist., Prince George Co. - m. 19 years, with no children. Find a Grave Memorial #247569059 also conflates these ladies; it gives Sarah Bennett (RIGGIN) SCAMMELL (1827 - 1917). William & "Bettie" are also buried in Cedar Hill Cemetery - Block G, Lot 143.
