JAMES ALONZO HARRELL 

  Funeral services for James Alonzo Harrell were held yesterday afternoon at 
the Suffolk Christian church with a large assembly from relatives and friends 
present.  The services were in charge of the Rev. H.S. Hardcastle, pastor of 
the church; the Rev. H.E. Cromer, of the Main Street Methodist Church, and the 
Rev. Dr. H.J. Goodwin, of the First Baptist Church. 

  There were many beautiful floral offerings.  The choir sang the favorite 
hymns of the deceased, "God Be With You Till We Meet Again" and "The Old 
Rugged Cross." 

  Interment was in Cedar Hill Cemetery. 

  Active pallbearers were J.S. Branch, Elvin Gardner, R.C. Harrell, Leslie 
Davis, James Bangley, N.T. Gray, Curtis Saunders, Frank Butler.  Members of 
the Twentieth Century Baraca Class of the Christian Sunday School, Col. E.E. 
Holland, teacher, formed the honorary escort.

b. 23 Sep 1857, Nansemond Co., d. 5 Jun 1931, at home, Suffolk, 
interred in Cedar Hill Cemetery (Block F, Lot 12*), Suffolk, 26 Oct 1930,

His father, James Norfleet HARRELL (1826 - 1858), is buried in Block D, 
   Lot 18.  His body was found in the Nansemond River 10 Jul 1858; an 
   inquest judged his death to have been probable murder.

His mother, Gehiza (SAUNDERS) HARRELL (1829 - 1899), is buried in Block F,
