John Elton Horne, 45, of 111 Mulberry Avenue, Newport News, died June 29, 1954, after an illness of two months. He was a native of Ivor and had been a resident of Newport News for the last 27 years. Mr. Horne was an employee of the Newport News Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Company, serving there for the last 24 years. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Goldie Martha Horne of Newport News; six brothers, B.G. Horne, of Windsor; G.T. Horne, of Newport News; L.H. Horne of Windsor; L.L. Horne of Suffolk; J.B. Horne of Suffolk, and W.H. Horne of Richmond; six sisters, Mrs. J.R. Bowden and Mrs. J.J. Pulley, both of Newport News; Mrs. V.L. Lowe and Mrs. C.B. Davis, both of Richmond; Mrs. S.L. Lewis of Portsmouth, and Mrs. J.D. McClenny, of Sedley. Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at 2 p.m. from the Peninsula Funeral Home with the Rev. H.G. Tillman, pastor of Orchid Avenue Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery, Suffolk.
