JACKSON, VETERAN, PASSES Death Claims Member Of Vaughan-Causey Camp And Former Legionnaire After Several Months' Illness. Thomas A. Jackson, age 54 years, son of the late Thomas and Mrs. Mary Jackson, a Spanish-American War and World War veteran, a member of the Vaughan-Causey Camp of Spanish-American War Veterans and a former member of the American Legion, died at Lakeview hospital yesterday afternoon, after an illness of several months. Mr. Jackson was born in Hertford, N.C., and is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Belle Goodwin, of Suffolk, and Mrs. Myra Whitehurst of Norfolk; two brothers, Charles Jackson, and George Jackson, both of Suffolk, and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at the residence of Mrs. Belle Goodwin, in Lakeside, Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock by the Rev. Horace E. Cromer, pastor of the Main Street Methodist Church, assisted by the Rev. Dr. W.W. Staley. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. All members of Vaughan-Causey Camp, Spanish-American War Veterans have been asked to act as an honorary escort. Post Commander Joseph Morris has asked all members of the American Legion to assemble at the home Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock, wearing American Legion caps, to pay last honors to their comrade. ****************************************************************************** THOMAS A. JACKSON Funeral services for Thomas A. Jackson were conducted yesterday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Bell Goodwin in Lakeside by the Rev. H.E. Cromer and Dr. W.W. Staley. The funeral was attended by a large number of friends and there were many beautiful flowers. The casket was draped with the camp flag of the Vaughan- Causey Camp, Spanish-American War Veterans. A quartet from Main Street Methodist Church, consisting of Walter McFall, A.B. Cramer, A.D. Bowen and R.N. Baker, sang "Abide with Me' and "Asleep in Jesus." Miss Olivera Whitehurst was accompanist. Active pallbearers were Otis Smith, Jr., R.T. Piland, A.J. Hines, C.O. Bradshaw, George H. Artman, H.F. Howell, J.H. Boothe and Bobby Glaus. Members of Vaughan-Causey Camp of Spanish-American War Veterans, of which the deceased was a member, and members of the veterans of the World War and American Legion Post No. 57 acted as honorary escorts. Taps were sounded by Horace Johnson, American Legion bugler, at the grave in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Thomas A.
